9/5/2023 0 Comments Black forest bakery amherst nh![]() ![]() I will continue to frequent the bakery, which I do on a daily basis, and the occasional lunch, but dinner is a no for us. The desserts were both wonderful, but we'd expect nothing less knowing how delicious the baked items ALWAYS are. We went onto afters and I ordered the Raspberry Mousse nestled on a chocolate crumb base with a bit of whipped cream on top. My companion said the beef was tender, fell apart with the fork, needed no cutting, and was very good but very rich and they felt it would be a great entree for the winter menu as it was too heavy for a summer dish. At a cost of $17.00 it seemed pricy for the amount of meat on the dish. It was served also with the Yukon gold potatoes and seasonal veggies. Slow cooked beef in adobo sauce with mildly spicy guajillo peppers. My dinner companion chose the Adobo Beef Brisket. For a $17.00 dish, I will say there was an abundance of meat on the bone, but there was also a lot of fat. ![]() The vegetables were good, but nothing to rave about and I ended up leaving them. The Yukon gold potatoes with cotija cheese were tasty but I had battle with the skins left on some lumps. I could not taste the merlot braise at all, the taste was bland and the lamb was over done (no pink it was brown inside out). I ordered the lamb shanks that did not mirror the ones on the website. Definitely a comfort food, definitely expected New England fare, and a good start with the homemade bread. We both ordered the summer clam chowder and the chunks of potatoes needed to be sliced with a knife they were way too big. However, dinner was nowhere at the calibre of the bakery side. I think if the vinyl table covers where changed out for cloth, and the music to classical or none at all, it would make for a more romantic atmosphere. I did notice most of the dinner patrons were older and I thought the place needed freshening up, a little updating wouldn't hurt. Perhaps the vinyl tablecloths make it too casual for that special intimate dinner out, or the decor in the restaurant is very dated (it is all terribly beige) and the music is geared for an older crowd. Lunch there is usually good, but dinner leaves a lot to be desired and I am not sure why that is. The restaurant side is a different story. I frequent the bakery section often, there is a great selection of soups, salads, wraps, quiches, and the dessert selection is out of this world fantastic! There is a wonderful selection of wines and I have never been disappointed stopping by to pick up a wine or dessert for company. I must give credit where credit is due, and the Black Forest Cafe Bakery is one of the best places for lunch and desserts. ![]()
